Guidelines for Patients

Taking the remedy
The remedy and potency I select for you, either in liquid or tablet form, will be the closest match for your symptom picture, taking into account your individual characteristics emotionally, physically and generally. It must always be taken into a clean mouth. You should not eat or drink anything, clean your teeth, or smoke, for about 20 minutes before or after taking the remedy. Avoid strong flavours like mint, menthol, or eucalyptus, as these can interfere with the action of the remedy.

Diet, supplements, drugs and lifestyle
We will look at your usual diet and lifestyle, and I may suggest changes, especially if it seems that your lifestyle contributes to the illness. Of course a good basic diet is necessary for good health, with less sugar, fat, alcohol, refined and artificial food ingredients.
During your consultation, please mention medicines or supplements that you take regularly. You should NOT discontinue any medication prescribed for you, without first consulting your doctor.

Working with conventional medicine
It is best to maintain the relationship with your GP or specialist. They will be able to arrange any tests or X-rays you may need. Homeopathy has an alternative philosophy, but by working in this way with your GP the two systems of health care can provide complementary services.

Length of treatment
This is individual and the length of treatment depends on what sort of illness you have, how recent the problem is, the characteristics of the illness, as well as whether you are taking conventional medication. So, it is not realistic to assess this until we see how you respond to the remedies. Yet it is possible to say that a slowly developing complaint will not disappear immediately although there may be a response and some improvement quite soon. Acute complaints on the whole, get better very quickly. Homeopathy works from the inside out and often outer symptoms, such as skin complaints, are the last to clear. Becoming healthy is a process that requires patience, but it is worth it.

Confidentiality
All consultations and patient’s notes are strictly confidential, in keeping with the BRCP’s Code of Ethics.
